Miniature painting with Manish Soni

At: St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, On: January 11, 2018

Acclaimed miniaturist Manish Soni travelled to Mumbai from Bhilwara, Rajasthan, home to many traditional Indian artists. He spoke to a mixed audience of history and museology students from the college, and 10 children brought in from government schools. Manish explained how his art community works to preserve this ancient form by using all-natural colours, brushes and canvases, and working with traditional themes. Then the class was given handmade-paper postcards to paint using the miniature art skills they’d learned by observing Manish. Sarmaya’s Experience and Outreach Associate Mitisha Mehta guided the participants with their individual paintings.
