The Indian Rupee turned 75 this year and we’re marking the milestone with a very special exhibition at Sarmaya. Odyssey of the Rupee: From India to the world is curated by Dr Shailendra Bhandare of the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford and designed by Pavitra Rajaram Design.
Odyssey of the Rupee is unlike any other show we’ve done before. And here are just a few reasons why:
- It’s our first collaboration with Dr Bhandare, who brings an incredible breadth of scholarship to the subject.
- This will be our largest ever showcase of historical currency, from ancient punch-marked coins from the pre-rupee era to the very first coin of Independent India.
- We’ll be tracing the rupee’s journey to distant shores through beautiful coins and notes from places like Mozambique, Java and Saudi Arabia.
Plus, we have lots of fun programming to bring alive the themes of the show for audiences of all ages. You can browse our schedule and book spots here:
