Untitled (Horizon Line, Turkey)

2015

This Untitled work is part of a series showcasing Horizon lines by artist Aditi Singh (b. 1976), made using ink on Washi Paper in 2015.

The work is the artist’s interpretation of the horizon line of Turkey. It has emerged from a long and deep reflection on the natural world and the artist’s imagination. It was walking that allowed the artist to visit and revisit elements of nature.

Singh uses paper with varying degrees of absorption and observes how the ink engages with them. Washi is one of the lightest and most absorbent papers. According to Singh, the paper showcases that every mark on the ink leaves no room to hide vulnerabilities. These lines and movements draw the viewer to engage with the piece, privy to the artist’s explorations.
