Dr Shailendra Bhandare is one of the pre-eminent scholars on Indian numismatics and Senior Curator for Asian Coins and Paper Money at Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford. In this talk, Dr Bhandare, who curated our exhibition, gave us an insight into the ways in which British and other European colonial powers adopted and adapted the Indian rupee for use in various countries, from Tanzania to Indonesia.
