‘All That Glitters Is Gold: A beginner’s guide to Thanjavur paintings’ sets the context to why this art is important to the Hindu way of life. Behaviourist and Tamil historian Pradeep Chakravarthy looks at the social, economic and political conditions that led to the creation of this genre in Thanjavur in the 19th century. The talk discusses several tips for dating paintings (never before shared on any forum) and examines some superb examples in public and private collections.
