Mallika Sarabhai & Anita Ratnam talk dance, feminism & their legacy

Sarmaya hosted an inspiring conversation between two leading lights of Indian dance and theatre, in partnership with the dance company beej Mumbai. As Mallika Sarabhai and Anita Ratnam spoke to Sanjukta Wagh, co-founder beej, about their ‘parallel journeys’ it became clear that these contemporaries share a abiding respect for each other’s craft even while creating very distinctive legacies.

Mallika Sarabhai is one of India’s leading choreographers and dancers, the co-director Darpana Academy of Performing Arts and founder of the performance space, Natrani. Anita Ratnam is a dancer, choreographer, cultural commentator, actor-producer and publisher, and Artistic Director of Arangham Dance Theatre. She’s also creator of Narthaki.com, an award-winning Indian dance portal. Sanjukta Wagh is a performer, choreographer, educator and curator, besides being the co- founder of the interdisciplinary initiative, beej.
