Vijayanagara Art & Archeology: An Overview by Dr (Sr) Anila Verghese

Dr (Sr) Anila Verghese is a historian of international standing with a specialisation in the religious and art history of the Vijayanagara empire and city (present-day Hampi) and in the successor states or Nayaka kingdoms. In this talk, she gives our audience an overview of the artistic traditions of the land, and explains what fascinates her most about this great era in south Indian history. Dr Verghese has to her credit twelve books–written or edited by her–as well as over seventy-five research papers. She assumed office as Director/Principal of Sophia Polytechnic in November 2013 and served on the faculty of Sophia College for Women from 1977 to 2012, the last eleven-and-a-half years of which she was also the Principal of the College.
